Examination Results - Summer 09

A Level: -

It has been a good year and students and staff at Philip Morant College have plenty to celebrate!

Sue Cowans, Headteacher and Gareth Staines, Head of College were delighted by the A level results. Almost all students have reached or exceeded their target grades. There was an impressive increase this year in the average point scores and in the percentage of A and B grades. The overall pass rate is 97% and the greater majority of students will be moving onto their choice of university or careers, studying amongst other subjects, law, medicine, mathematics, video production and deaf studies. The results reflect the strong collaborative work between staff and students, which is the hallmark of Philip Morant College.

Students and staff are also looking forward to the opening next week of the new £1.7 million College building. This is looking magnificent and will greatly enhance the post-16 accommodation. There is a new College library and study area, IT areas, café and terrace, common room and more specialist teaching and tutorial rooms. Students joining Year 12 in September will be the first to benefit from this major upgrade of the College since its opening in 1996.

GCSE:-

Following last weeks good A level results, the school was delighted to see 74% of their students achieving 5+ A* to C GCSE grades, an increase on last year.

Sue Cowans, Headteacher, congratulated the students and stated;

‘We have maintained once again the high standards at GCSE our students have achieved over a number of years. Points scores were up, including the percentage gaining A* and A grades. The important measure of five GCSEs including English and Maths was attained by 66% of our students. This high standard is a vital platform on which to build success in Further and Higher Education.’

56% of the year group achieved nine or more good GCSEs at A* to C grades and seven students had all A* or A grades. There were many superb results across the whole range from students who had worked very hard, to secure their individual success. A very pleasing set of results, with many of these students joining us in Year 12 to study in the new College buildings opened this week at Philip Morant
