A view of the front entrance of the Philip Morant SchoolIt gives us great pleasure to welcome you to Philip Morant School and College. We very much hope that both students and parents will have a happy and successful association with us.

Our aim is to provide each of our students with the highest quality education and care and for every student to achieve their full academic, social, physical and spiritual potential. We feel that the school has a great deal to offer and is therefore justified in making considerable demands on all our students to maintain and achieve the highest possible standards.

The school is organised on a House basis, which gives students the advantage of belonging to a small ‘school within a school’. The five houses help us to avoid many of the problems traditionally associated with large schools.

During Years 7 - 9, we offer a broad and balanced education for all students, which takes into account the level of ability of each individual student and some students begin GCSEs early. In the course of the 9th Year, choices are made regarding the ensuing 10th and 11th Year courses. In the 11th Year students are entered for G.C.S.E. examinations and vocational qualifications, as appropriate. We aim to enter all students for a full examination programme where appropriate.

Our sixth form, Philip Morant College, has purpose built accommodation and we have been delighted with its success since its reformation in 1996. We offer a wide range of A level subjects which are supplemented by advanced vocational courses and extra curriculum programme. As in the rest of the school, the emphasis in our sixth form is on quality and excellence.

We are a Foundation school, a status which gives us the freedom to manage our resources so that all students achieve their potential. We enjoy sharing the best practice in education for the benefit of all our students and for those in other schools, including our family of primary schools.

In September 1994, the School was successful in becoming a Technology College. This was possible because we were able to obtain sponsorship from a number of local and national companies. In 2007 our Technology College Status was renewed for a further four years. The increased funding has made a significant difference in our approach to Technology, Mathematics, Science and indeed the whole curriculum. We have the very latest computer and multi-media facilities supported by a unique partnership with Microsoft. We have an excellent School Computer NA girl using a flat screen computeretwork, with at least 500 computers available linked to the Internet and with multi-media facilities. These resources are available for students to use after school. Our website is now an important means of communication and the on line ‘ Learning Zone’ significantly helps students in their learning.

Many parents opt for Philip Morant School and College as their first choice and the school has a long history of oversubscription. Most of the children from the local community attend the school. In Year 7 students are placed in classes that will allow them to progress individually through an appropriate level of pace and challenge. We monitor continuously the attainment and effort of every student across their curriculum. We also ensure that students with special learning needs receive carefully targeted support within their lessons. Our aim is to design the curriculum to meet the needs of every student.

During the course of Years 8 & 9 we begin to fine-tune setting for the core curriculum. By Year 10 ability sets are the norm in all subjects.

We aim also to give our students a broad and balanced social, moral and spiritual education, ensuring that they become good citizens with a proper respect for the cultures and needs of other people. We also set expectations of the highest standard of manners, dress and conduct. We naturally hope that parents will agree with us in these matters, and give their full support by following the regulations in this guide. We have a strict policy towards school uniform and give clear expectations to all our students about acceptable standards of behaviour.

From the above you will recognise that Philip Morant School and College has a particular ethos and high standards with regard to conduct. We assume that in choosing the school, parents are demonstrating a willingness to give their complete support to this ethos.

We are very proud of the achievements of our students and staff and look forward to working together with you to ensure that your child achieves his/her fullest potential. We hope that s/he will soon settle down happily with us and that you will also feel part of our learning community. You are welcome in the school by appointment at any time.
