In early December the Greenpower team were pleased to host a visit from Nigel Burgess of the
Sustainable Transport Research Centre at South Bank University, London. Nigel has many years of
experience building solar cars competing in the Australian,
US and Japanese solar car challenges. One of the
university's early solar cars, Mad Dog II is currently
on display in the science museum. Nigel had just returned from Australia where
he and a team from the University had raced e-Pod, a solar-battery vehicle,
over 3,500km from coast to coast.
Mad Dog I
Perhaps
the recycle theme that Franc N. started had bitten hard since Nigel and South
Bank have donated "Mad Dog I" - the university's original solar car and
once holder of the British solar car record. Mad Dog had been living in a lock
up for some years but will still provide some usable parts for
Fireblade. Elements of our front
suspension will come from Mad Dog and we may also reuse some of the carbon-fibre
composite material.
This
page shows Mad Dog in his racing heyday.
